Power tariff revision in UP on cards

Lucknow, Jul 2 (KNN) Notwithstanding long power cuts and load-shedding in the state, the regulator in Uttar Pradesh has started the process of examining demand of distribution companies for revision in tariff rates.

The state distribution companies namely Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL), Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL), Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), Purvanchal  Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PuVVNL) and Kanpur Electricity Supply Company Limited (KESCO), Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (UPPTCL) and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) Greater Noida have filed petitions for determination of Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR)/tariff before the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC).

The commission has admitted the same vide its Orders June 3, 2014 and for the further proceedings, proposes to hold “Public Hearings”.

The hearing is to be held in Kanpur, Greater Noida, Meerut, Varanasi, Agra and Lucknow in July.

Recently, in eastern Uttar Pradesh, agitated residents attacked power department offices protesting against regular power cuts in the region. There were also violent clashes between villagers and power officials at Amehera near Meerut.

Following the incident, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court directed the Centre and state government to file their replies on a PIL that questioned 24-hours uninterrupted power supply in the state in some VIP areas. (KNN/ST)
