Procure from local manufacturers, PMO instructs departments

New Delhi, Dec 23 (KNN) Batting for procurement from domestic manufacturers, Prime Minister’s Office in a letter to the heads of various departments has urged to stick to the official procurement policy and consider procuring locally from the domestic manufacturers.

The letter comes with the backdrop of the railways proposing to buy rails by issuing a global tender earlier this week.

In the letter, Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed discontent over the proposal of going for procuring from international market.

It should be the responsibility at the highest level in each department to ensure that the tender conditions are strictly in sync with the public procurement order and each tender must be examined from the point of view of the interest of Indian manufacturers, the letter read as reported by different news portals, claiming that the letter has been uploaded on the steel Ministry’s website.

The decision to procure locally is in line with the government’s flagship Make In India project and the departments must abide by it, the letter instructed. (KNN/ DA)
