New Delhi, Jun 19 (KNN)  The government has extended prohibition on import of all milk products from China for an additional year according to a notification by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

“Prohibition on import of milk and milk products (including chocolates and chocolate products and candies or confectionary and food preparations with milk or milk solids as an ingredient) from China is extended for one more year till June 23 or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” it said.

The central Government made the amendment in ITC (HS) 2012 to bring in the notification.

ITC (HS) codes are better known as Indian Trade Clarification (ITC) and are based on Harmonized System (HS) of Coding.  It was adopted in India for import-export operations.  Indian customs uses an eight digit ITC (HS) code to suit the national trade requirements.

Bilateral trade between India and China had gone up from USD 2.09 billion in 2001-02 to a high of USD 75.59 billion in 2011-12.  It fell down to USD 67.83 billion during the year 2012-13.

India’s trade deficit with China is very high.  (KNN)
