Push to Khadi sector, investments of Rs 5.5 crore for looms-charkhas

New Delhi, Sept 4 (KNN) Eyeing to boost country's Khadi sector in the country, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) will be investing over Rs 5.5 crores as fresh investments directed towards the new looms and charkhas for manufacturing Khadi.

The announced investment is being carried out to realize the KVIC’s target of a accelerating growth in the sector by 7-9 per cent by the end of the next fiscal.

As a part of the investment plan, more than 500 soar charkhas were distributed along with more than 100 solar looms.

Also under the new investment initiatives, KVIC now has over 25 new production units in the country. The KVIC will now be producing cotton, silk and wool through the new units along with the core Khadi.

In a press interview, KVIC Chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena informed that the initiative will boost the production of Khadi and will also prove to be instrumental in providing livelihood to a large chunk of population.

KVIC informed that the commission is focusing on the backward areas including Haldwani, Banswara, Bhandari, Beekagaon, Pampore, Silimkhowa and Vanaj in the different states across the country. (KNN/DA)
