Rs 434 crore for four NIDs sanctioned

New Delhi, Feb 28 (KNN) Four new National Institutes of Design (NID) at Jorhat , Bhopal , Vijayawada and Kurukshetra will be set up in the central sector for which the Union Government has sanctioned financial support of Rs 434 crore.
These design institutes will offer both under-graduate and post graduate education in design disciplines meeting the regional needs, an official statement said today after meeting of the Cabinet which decided to extend financial support for the project.
The new design institutes will fill up the much-needed gap for making available world class designs for the industry and services sector products.
The National Institute of Design (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design education and research. The Business Week, USA has listed NID as one of the top 25 European and Asian programmes in the world.
The institute functions as an autonomous body under the department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
NID is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, as a scientific and industrial design research organisation.
NID has been a pioneer in industrial design education after Bauhaus and Ulm in Germany and is known for its pursuit of design excellence to make Designed in India, Made for the World a reality. NID's graduates have made a mark in key sectors of commerce, industry and social development by taking role of catalysts and through thought leadership. (KNN/PC/ES)
