Rs 6,300 cr pile up in power development fund

New Delhi, Feb 19 (KNN) Government has approved the operationalization of power system development fund for creating transmission system of strategic importance and installation of modern equipment to ensure safety of the power grid. As much as Rs 6,300 crore is available with the fund.

This information was given by Minister of State for Power, Jyotiraditya Scindia, in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

The fund will also be utilised towards installation of shunt capacitors, series compensators and other reactive energy generators for improvement of voltage profile in the grid, installation of standard and special protection schemes, pilot and demonstrative projects, and for setting right discrepancies identified in protection audits on regional basis and renovation and modernisation (R&M) of transmission and distribution systems for relieving congestion and any other scheme or project in furtherance of the above objectives, such as, conducting technical studies and capacity building.

Scindia also said, “To strengthen connectivity of Southern Region with the rest of India grid, interregional transmission lines have been planned and are under construction.”

The interregional transmission lines are - Sholapur – Raichur 975 kV single circuit line (2nd circuit); Kolhapur (new) – Narendra (Kudgi) GIS 765 kV double circuit line; Angul – Srikakulam PP-Vemgiri Pooling Point; and Wardha - Nizamabad – Hyderabad 765 kV double circuit.

The Central Government on Thursday approved the proposal of the Ministry of Power for operationalization of the Power System Development Fund.

“Power System Development Fund (PSDF) will be utilised for creating necessary transmission systems of strategic importance based on operational feedback by Load Dispatch Centres for relieving congestion in Inter-State Transmission Systems,” Finance Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters here after the Cabinet meeting. (KNN/SD)
