New Delhi, Nov 8 (KNN)  Science and Technology Minister SJ Reddy has lamented the fact that easy import regime has made India complacent about not developing innovations and research.

Addressing the national conference on “Accelerating Technology Innovation for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth” here yesterday, the minister said while the modern generation gets excited over the launch of new mobile phones and laptops, they do not show enthusiasm for development of innovation.

The result, he said was that having become comfortable in foreign exchange reserves, “We are getting into the problem again because we don’t want to invent anything if it is available abroad.  We seemed to need industrial technology ban to go for import substitution. If something is available abroad, we don’t want to create it.”

Reddy said that historically, western countries have not bothered about environment.

“Having opened the ozone layer, they want to close it” he said.

About China he said, that its growth model was also not based on sustainable development. (KNN/ST)
