Safety Standards Norms for Hydrogen Fuel cells based vehicles notified

New Delhi, Sept 24 (KNN) Giving a push to Hydrogen Fuel cells based vehicles in India,  Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified the Standards for Safety Evaluation of vehicles being propelled by Hydrogen Fuel cells.

The Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989 made vide GSR (E) Dated 23rd September, 2020 has been amended accordingly.

“This would facilitate the promotion of Hydrogen Fuel Cell based vehicles in the country which are energy efficient and environment friendly”, the official communique said.

The prospective manufacturer and suppliers of such vehicles have the standards available for the testing of such vehicles.  These standards are also at par with the available international standards.

To reduce pollution and promote cleaner mobility, the Indian government has been pushing for vehicles propelled by Hydrogen Fuel cells through schemes like ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric vehicles (FAME).

Taking cognizance of these developments car manufacturers have started looking at opportunity to manufacture vehicles run on Hydrogen  Fuel cells.  Hyundai is said to be in the forefront in this regard.
