SC serves notice to Centre, States on PIL seeking return of unused lands acquired to set up SEZs

New Delhi, Jan 9 (KNN) The Supreme Court has issued notice to Centre and seven states including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in response to a PIL was filed for seeking return of unused land to farmers which was acquired for setting up SEZ.

According to a media report, a bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and justices D Y Chandrachud and L N Rao has asked for responses within four weeks from the Centre and states on the PIL.

The PIL filed by SEZ Farmers Protection, Welfare Associations, an NGO, has also sought a CBI probe in the matter.

According to the PIL, the land has been acquired for setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) by the states are mostly lying unused and some corporates have rather taken loan on these plots.
