Share your look in handloom attire & tag 5 people, appeals Smriti Irani
New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNN) New Textile minister Smriti Irani has come out with a unique way to promote India’s traditional handloom sector. She has unveiled a campaign to boost the popularity of handloom-made cloth and other articles which somehow did not become popular in the market.
Irani has come out with a comprehensive social media campaign, the theme of which has been titled as 'Selfie-with-Handloom', with posts on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.
The campaign would encourage people of the country to click a selfie wearing one or the other handloom-made article and post it online on social networking sites.
In a series of tweet, Irani said, “Textile sector in India attracts $230mn FDI in 2015-16.”
“Indian handlooms symbolise India's heritage & culture. Wear it to carry on our rich tradition and support 43 lakh weavers & their families,” she wrote.
Posting a picture in a blue handwoven silk saree from Bihar, Smriti Irani said, “I support Indian weavers, here's my #IWearHandloom look - Handwoven Silk from Bihar. Share your look & tag 5 people.”
She appealed people of the country to show support to weavers for keeping the handloom traditions alive. (KNN Bureau)
