Shilpotsav 2013 - an annual fair of artisans

New Delhi, Nov 1 (KNN) Artisans from across the country who belong to the weaker sections of the society have been given an opportunity to display their wares at Shilpotsav 2013, an annual fare of artisans that began here today.
 
Being showcased at the fair are silk sarees, garments, dress material, Kashmiri shawls, hand embroidery, bead work, durries, carpets, bags, wood artifacts, bamboo, cane and jute products, pearls, dry fruits, honey and pickle products, among others.

The annual event is an effort to economically empower the underprivileged.
 
Having received an encouraging response to the last six Shilpotsavs, this year more artisans have been given opportunities to sell and display their art work.  Many visitors, buyers and exporters frequent the fair each year to buy products and place orders.

“Craftsmen/entrepreneurs whose products will be on exhibit/sale in ‘Shilpotsav” are beneficiaries of National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation, National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation, National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation, National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation and National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities,” said an official notification.

Other institutes participating in this year’s fair are - National Institute of Social Defence, New Delhi, National Institute of Mentally Handicapped, Secunderabad, DDU Institute for the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi, AYJ National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai, National Institute for Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, National Institute for Orthopedically Handicapped, Kolkata, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation, Kanpur.  (KNN/ES)
