New Delhi, Jan 14 (KNN)  To provide a platform to manufacturers, exporters and retailers to showcase and sell an array of intricate silk designs produced domestically, Silk Mark Expos are held across the country on a regular basis.

Organised by the Silk Mark Organisation of India which is an initiative of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Silk Mark Expo 2014 will begin here tomorrow.

The expo will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Textiles, Kavuru Sambasiva Rao.  During the event, Secretary, Textiles, Zohra Chatterji will brief media regarding the Interactive Designers' Meet.  The highlight of the event will be a fashion extravaganza called Silken Splendour, choreographed by Prasad Bidapa.

The event is popular among silk lovers who would have an opportunity to see an array of silk from far-flung weaving clusters of India under one roof.

Only pure silk products will be displayed or sold in the Expo, duly affixed with Silk Mark tags.

The objectives of Silk Mark Expos are to create awareness among the masses about Silk Mark; to enhance generic promotion of Indian silks and an assurance of pure silk.  The expos are organised through regional chapters across the country.

While a Silk Mark Expo will be held in New Delhi from January-15 to 20th, a similar event will be held in Chandigarh from January-24 to 29th and in Jammu from February-1 to 9th.
The events will also feature discussions on silk production and the textile industry by professional experts and industry leaders.

Participants of the event are silk manufacturers, suppliers, readymade garment sellers, exporters, traders, retailers, producers and potential customers from different parts of the world, showcasing innovative products and services related to the silk and textile industry.

A variety of natural silks like mulberry, tassar, muga and eri will be displayed.  (KNN/ES)
