SILK MARK expo kicks off in Delhi today

New Delhi, Aug 22 (KNN) With the aim to build brand equity of Indian Silk at home and abroad, the Minster of State for Textiles and Railways, Darshana Vikram Jardosh inaugurated the SILK MARK EXPO in New Delhi today.

The exhibition is being organised by Silk Mark Organization of India (SMOI) with the support of Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.

Around 39 exhibitors from 12 states are participating in the expo that will conclude on August 28.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Jardosh said the Indian Textiles standing in the cusp of a global opportunity, Central Silk Board has ushered in a new regime to ensure that Silk Products carries specific markings about its contents for pro-consumer information through a process of labelling. “A scheme has been enacted in the name of “Silk Mark” by the Silk Mark Organization of India,” she said.

The Minister further elaborated on the need to organise such exhibitions in order to protect our rich heritage and to empower the women weavers and workers engaged in the silk sector.

Upendra Prasad Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles (MOT), Rajit Ranjan Okhandiar IFS, CEO & Member Secretary, Central Silk Board were amongst those present at the ceremony.  (KNN Bureau)
