“The first and foremost condition for participation in the Silk Mark Expos is that only pure silk products can be displayed or sold in the expo. All products displayed in the expo will be tagged invariably with Silk Mark tags duly affixed with hologram,” said a statement from SMOI.
Chief Executive Officer, SMOI, KS Menon said that the objective of organising the expo is to make aware the consumers about the purity of silk as these days the people were being cheated with synthetic silk as the people could not identify which was pure and which was synthentic.
He informed that weavers, silk clothes merchants, co-operative organisations and government departments from the traditional silk producing states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala will exhibit their collection of silk products at the expo.
Apart from the diverse collection of silk like Kanchipuram, Aarani, Crape, Kantha, Tribal work, Chantheri, Georgette and many more, the Vanya Silk expo will also provide a number of silk products like silk carpets, bedspreads, cushions, wallets and also shirts, churidars and scarves, he said.
SMOI’s headquarter is located in Bangalore and has thirteen Silk Mark Chapters located strategically in and around silk clusters of the country. (KNN Bureau)
