Soap industries in TN to become tech savvy

Chennai, Dec 26 (KNN) The Tamil Nadu Small Scale Soap & Detergent Manufacturers Association (TANSDMA) is educating its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) members to adopt modern technologies.

“In oder to grow to the next level, they are (MSMEs) keen on enhancing their competitiveness by cutting production cost, improving quality and achieving savings on energy, among others by deploying the latest technologies,'' K Dhanapal, President, Tamil Nadu Small Scale Soap & Detergent Manufacturers Association (TANSDMA) has said.

He further said, several manufacturers were keen on expanding their capacities to grow their business and enter new markets. TANSDMA is working on facilitating technology upgradation of its members to help them grow to the next level.

TANSDMA has about 600 soap and detergent makers and allied products as members. Their total turnover of them will be about Rs 1,500 crore a year.

Commenting on the same, VS Manimaran, Member, Executive Committee, TANSDAMA, said, “Companies are willing to spend on technology now and micro and small scale industries want to expand their production. This will also create job opportunities for a lot of people.”

To combat competition, the association, as a first step, has convened a national conference on modern techniques in soaps and detergents in Chennai on December 29 and 30.
