Softlines Labs is authorised to test export products for performance, safety

“The Softlines Labs of TÜV Rheinland India, based at Gurgaon, Bangalore and Tirupur, primarily helps manufacturers and exporters of apparels, home soft furnishings, leather footwear/handbags, toys and jewellery, maintain their brand positioning by testing and certifying their products for performance, safety and regulatory testing requirements,” a press release said.
TÜV Rheinland India, the Indian subsidiary of the German based TÜV Rheinland Group is a worldwide leader in testing, training, inspection, consulting and certification. It has bagged the prestigious accreditation for its 3 Softlines Labs in India from NABL as per ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 which is an international standard for laboratories accreditation.
NABL is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It has been established with the objective to provide government, regulators and industry with a scheme of laboratory accreditation through third-party assessment for formally recognizing the technical competence of laboratories.
Expressing his delight at bagging the accreditation within one year of commencement of the Softlines business, CEO and Managing Director, TÜV Rheinland South Asia, Enrico Ruhle said, “All our three labs are also approved for CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) which is the mandatory requirement of testing for children products being exported to USA.”
“In line with our global strategy, we invested close to 3.4 million Euros in our Softlines Lab network in India, which ensures that we are covering all the major sourcing locations which are important for the textiles, leather and footwear industry in India. Our Gurgaon Lab works as a centre of excellence for other two labs in Bangalore and Tirupur,” added Ruhle.
Speaking of their facility, Country Head-Softlines, TUV Rheinland India Charan Singh said, “We have laboratories which are well equipped with cutting edge technology to perform mechanical as well as chemical, safety and regulatory testing including testing for harmful chemical substances, REACH for apparel, leather, footwear, home textiles, toys, jewellery, fashion accessories etc.”
Having started its operation in 1996 in India, TÜV Rheinland India is a part of the India, Middle East and Africa Group and caters to the Indian market as well as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives markets.
With local headquarters at Bangalore, the company is active in more than 100 locations in India.
