New Delhi, May 1 (KNN) Manufacturers of PV (photo-voltaic) solar panels said they are losing Rs 1,000 crore worth of business annually and suffering job losses due to dumping by US, China, Taiwan and Malaysia, a media report said.

Apex industry body Indian Solar Manufacturers’ Association said the products imported to India are being sold at ridiculously low prices in violation of international fair trade regulations. They have demanded 30-35 per cent anti-dumping duty on imports from these countries.

Apart from the threat of job losses and financial losses to domestic manufacturers, the country is also missing out on exports, the association said.

Indian solar manufacturers are victims of a predatory state policy from China. More than 70 per cent of the installed PV capacity is idle. Hundreds of employees have been laid off, it said.

In January 2013, the Ministry of Commerce issued a notification for the launch of anti-dumping investigations into imported PV cells from these countries.

Recently, Europe and the US too have insisted on domestic products and imposed anti-dumping duty on Chinese panels.

Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) under the government’s National Action Plan on Climate Change has an objective for domestic content requirements (DCR) which was contested by the United States for giving preference to the local manufacturers of equipment.

India is challenging the US against the country’s policy requiring power producers to use locally sourced content in the mission. (KNN/ST)
