Spice Board proposes processing centre for cardamom in TN at Rs 1.50 cr

Bodinayakannoor is a major trading centre for cardamom.
“The proposed processing centre includes an e-auction centre and cleaning, grading and packing facility for cardamom. The total cost of the proposed project is Rs 1.50 crore,” according to a release by Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
All the stake holders of cardamom including exporters can avail the facilities at the processing centre and thereby reduce the transportation and processing time for shipments. This will help to export fresh and best quality cardamom from the country, the release added.
Spices Board of Department of Commerce under Ministry of Commerce and Industry has established a Spice Park at Puttady, Idukki district of Kerala as processing centre for cardamom and pepper. The facilities in the Park include e-auction centre, grading and colour sorting machine, Poly Urethane Form (PUF) godown for cardamom.
Ministry of Commerce and Industry has formulated a Modified Price Stabilization Fund Scheme (MPSF) for plantation crops including cardamom. The prime objectives of the MPSF is to provide financial relief to the growers when prices of these commodities fall below a specified level (below the price spectrum band), provide, sustain long term support to growers in place of ad-hoc interventions during crisis etc, the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sanjeev Kumar Balyan informed Parliament.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) have set up common facility centres in six States for different products/items in Clusters under Micro and Small Enterprises - Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) of MSME.
Some of the Common Facility Centres set up across the country under MSE-CDP are Cashew Cluster, Goa; Food Processing Cluster, Gulbarga; Starch and Sago Cluster at Salem and Namakkal etc. (KNN/SD)
