20 women-led startups on path to become unicorns: Study

New Delhi, Mar 22 (KNN) About 20 female-led firms are on their way to become unicorns, as per a study performed by TiE Delhi NCR, research firm Zinnov, Google, NetApp, and venture capital firm Indian Angel Network.

According to the joint research, women established or co-founded 18 per cent of India’s unicorn startups.

This happened despite comparable metrics, success, and high entrepreneurial intent, socio-cultural impediments impede the growth of female founders.

“Approximately 18 per cent of India’s total unicorns are established by women, with 20 Prospective Unicorns in the pipeline,” according to the research.

WinZO, Doubtnut, Infinity Learn, Locus, Pratilipi, Portea, SirionLabs, and other firms are in the process of becoming unicorns.

Women founded or co-founded unicorn start-ups such as acko, BYJU’s Pristyn Care, MyGlamm, MobiKwik, Open, and others.

The entire valuation of unicorns founded by women entrepreneurs exceeds USD 30 billion, and their total equity investments exceed USD 12 billion.

Yet, the survey discovered a significant gender difference in the Indian start-up environment.

“Disparity in ticket size forced women entrepreneurs to face an investment loss of almost USD 3.7 billion over the last three years,” according to the study.  (KNN Bureau)
