IIT Hyderabad assisted 300 start-ups generate Rs 1,200 cr revenue
Hyderabad, July 13 (KNN) Over 300 start-ups have been supported by the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) which has helped these companies make revenues of about Rs 1,200 crore, reported TOI.
The institute itself has spent Rs 8 crore in the last eight years to support these start-ups.
Of these, 50 are functioning from the IITH campus at Kandi in Sangareddy district.
“We have created a robust environment in the institute to foster entrepreneurship,” IITH director BS Murty told TOI.
Earlier students had the option to take up entrepreneurship as a minor, while now the institute offers an option of doing a double major in entrepreneurship for BTech students, MTech in Techno Entrepreneurship.
It is a prototype-driven course, a product-based PhD and even has a department of entrepreneurship and management.
It has also started various programmes such as 'Nidhi Prayas', which supports hardware-based deep tech ideas with a prototype grant of up to Rs 10 lakh, and Bold & Unique Ideas Leading to Development (BUILD).
BUILD supports undergraduate students and recent graduates to give shape to their innovative ideas and eventually turn them into a start up, among others. (KNN Bureau)
