Steel Minister asks Joint Plant Committee to include members from secondary steel industry

Mumbai, Jan 31 (KNN) Union Minister of Steel, Birender Singh has asked the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) to enlarge its panel stating that more than half of the entire sector has been formed by the secondary steel industry now, so it become important to have their representation at the board level.

He was addressing at the recent 25th Consumers Council Meet.

He has asked to include representatives from sections like stainless steel, scrap and sponge iron.

There are over 2,000 units in the secondary steel industry, mainly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Presently the JPC Board constitutes of seven members that include representatives only from unified producers, such as state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited, Tata Steel and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam.
