Street vendors will sit on indefinite 'dharna' at Civic Centre, says NASVI

New Delhi, Oct 29 (KNN) After the street vendors held a demonstration under the leadership of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) at the Civic Centre on October 21st to voice anger against the authorities, NASVI has decided to sit on an indefinite dharna (Strike) at the Civic Centre from November 13th as the Authorities in Delhi have not responded to their agitation.

Arbind Singh, National Coordinator, said that even the LG of Delhi has not given any appointment despite repeated requests. As such the street vendors from all over Delhi will begin an agitation from November 13th and if the Authorities fail to respond, it will be converted into an indefinite hunger strike.

He lamented that lack of Will to implement the Street Vending at 2014 and accused both Delhi Governmnet as well the Municipal Corporations to be anti – street vendors.

NASVI has begun mobilisation of street vendors around these issues and given DO or DIE call to street vendors of Delhi. Enough humiliation has been heaped on the vendors by all the strong and powerful and it is time that the rights of the vendors enshrined in our Constitution as well as in the Street Vendors Act 2014 is redeemed for vendors.

NASVI has following demands like, Begin the survey immediately and stop the evictions until the survey is fully conducted, No decisions are to be taken without consulting the Town Vending Committees, Delhi Govt. should establish the Grievance Redressal and Dispute Resolution

Committees, Restoration of all the vendors evicted from markets like Karol Bagh, Jama Masjid among others and refer all High Court orders to the TVCs and settle the same within a period of one month.
