Subsidy on woollen yarn to continue

New Delhi, May 14 (KNN) In what could be a big relief for the weavers in the country, the government today announced to continue to subsidy on woollen yarn. The move comes a week after the issue of subsidy being stopped in some states was raised in the Parliament by a Congress MP which was supported by the entire opposition.
 
“The Government of India clarifies hereby that subsidy on woollen yarn has not been stopped and will continue to be available to the weavers,” Ministry of Textile said in a release.

MP Viplove Thakur had raised this issue during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha on May 7th that subsidy on woollen yarn used by weavers of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir has been stopped.
 
"The government has stopped the subsidy on woollen yarn which has affected poor women and weavers in Himachal, Jammu Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. While subsidy on silk yarn in Varanasi, which is represented by Prime Minister Modi and on cotton yarn in Gujarat, where Modi hails from, is been given, the same on woollen yarn has been stopped," she had said.
