Tea Board reviving Tea Council of India to ensure quality standards are maintained

Kolkata, Apr 26 (KNN) The Tea Board of India is reviving its advisory body the Tea Council of India to ensure strict enforcement of quality in accordance with Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) standards, according to Deputy Chairman of the Council.

Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of the Tea Entrepreneurs Meet here, Arun Kumar Ray, Deputy Chairman said “The Council, which is essentially an independent committee, will be responsible for conducting random sampling to check if the teas are FSSAI compliant.”

He stated that the Council will comprise of retired experts and officials from the tea industry, who will be responsible for random sampling of teas to ensure they adhere to quality.

Besides, he laid stress on promotion of Indian tea abroad, for which the board will ask companies to send separate samples to foreign missions. In addition, Ray urged the tea-producing companies to increase the output.

The board is also working on developing a new model of auction system and a new auction centre would come up at Jorhat in Assam, he added.
