Varanasi, Jan 2 (KNN) In a bid to increase efficiency of handloom weavers, the Textile Ministry wants to empower weavers through power backups by providing battery linked inverter lighting units (BLILUs) to the mega handloom clusters.

The main objective of providing BLILU to handloom weavers is that the same is installed on handloom to carry out weaving activity without loss of time.
“It will serve as an alternate source of light to be used in the absence of regular supply of electricity,” said an notification.

The battery linked inverters will be supplied to weavers of Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Prakasam and Guntur districts (Andhra Pradesh) and Godda and neighbouring districts (Jharkhand) under the Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS).

In this context, the Development Commissioner of Handlooms had sought suppliers of BLILUs for distribution to the handloom weavers.

India’s total handloom export for 2012-13 was at Rs 2811.97 crore. (KNN/SD)
