Textile Ministry’s initiative ‘Pehchan’ gets positive response from handicraft artisans

New Delhi, Oct 12 (KNN) The Ministry of Textile’s initiative Pehchan, a move to register and provide ID cards to handicraft artisans, has got positive response from the artisans.

Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani had last week launched ‘Pehchan’ at Sant Kabir Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Pehchan is a new upgraded ID card for artisans which will be linked with their Aadhar numbers & bank accounts so that they can receive direct cash transfer benefit.

With the view to take forward the mantra of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, 'Pehchan' registration camps have been held at 50 locations across the country.

While launching the Pehchan Registration camp in Sant Kabir Nagar, Irani announced development of Cluster for Metal Craft in the region that will benefit over 1000 artisans.

In order to encourage women & BPL metal craft artisans, Irani declared that tools & safety equipment will be distributed to them for free.

The Ministry of Textiles, in a series of tweets, shared the positive response that the camps got in Kalol in Gujarat; Thane district in Maharashtra; Dehradun in Uttarakhand; and Nagpur. (KNN Bureau)
