Alum was used instead of chemical as a mordant, that is, an agent for fixing colours on textiles. The risk of allergy with these natural colours is negligible.

After testing this research by the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), this eco-printing has been given a rating of five in quality. This research has been published in the May issue of the International Journal of Engineering Technology and Management Science.

Aanchal Manuja, a research scholar in the Department of Family and Community Sciences, University of Allahabad, under the direction of Assistant Professor Dr. Monisha Singh, has developed the printing technique without the use of any chemicals. According to Dr. Monisha Singh, one of the latest printing techniques is eco printing.

In this technique, the pigments present in the leaves of the plants are extracted directly on the cloth so that the print can be developed on it. The chlorophyll pigment present in rose leaves has been successfully printed with the help of alum.

Hammered by placing on the leaves on the cloth. After this it was steamed while rolling. Standardized with testing the colour fastness of the print. The developed prints were tested for washing, dry cleaning, perspiration, rubbing and exposure to sunlight while adhering to various ISO and AATCC standards.  (KNN Bureau)
