Cotton production in India decline to 312.03 lakh bales in 2022

New Delhi, Dec 17 (KNN) Cotton production since 2017-18 has witnessed a downward trajectory as it dropped from 370 lakh bales to 312.03 lakh bales in 2021-22 crop year.

This data was shared by Union Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Jardosh in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

She claimed that there is an adequate availability of cotton as the estimated production in the country is 341.91 lakh bales and estimated consumption is 311 lakh bales.

Provisionally the cotton production in the country in the current crop year is 341.91 lakh bales.

According to the data highlighting the year-wise cotton production in the country, during 2018-19 it was at 333 lakh bales, in 2019-20 it was at 365 lakh bales and 352.48 in 2020-21.

The Minister further said that the Ministry of Textiles is constantly engaged with all the stakeholders including Department of Agriculture on enhancing productivity of cotton by promoting advanced technologies through holistic planning from farm to fashion.  (KNN Bureau)
