Handloom Sector Gets Boost With Expanded Export Promotion Initiative

New Delhi, Mar 17 (KNN) The government has taken many steps to promote handloom exports from the country by enhancing its competitiveness in the global markets, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said while reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

The Minister highlighted that handloom exports to countries such as the United States, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, France and United Kingdom have shown varying trends between 2022–23 and 2024–25, reflecting shifting global demand patterns.

He said that in order to boost exports, the Ministry of Textiles is implementing the Handloom Marketing Assistance component under the National Handloom Development Programme.
The initiative  is aimed at developing and promoting marketing channels in both domestic and international markets in a comprehensive manner.

A key element of the initiative is facilitating participation of exporters and weavers in international trade fairs and marketing events, including buyer-seller meets, reverse buyer-seller meets, Bharat Tex and the India International Trade Fair, through the Handloom Export Promotion Council.

Additionally, the Minister said that ‘India Handloom Brand (IHB)’ is being promoted to position high-quality handloom products in premium global segments. The brand focuses on 100 per cent handloom products made from natural fibres, ensuring quality assurance, eco-friendly production and traditional craftsmanship.
