India’s cotton production rises by 20% to 341.91 lakh bales in FY23

New Delhi, Feb 10 (KNN) The production of cotton in India has increased from 312.03 lakh bales in FY22 to 341.91 lakh bales in FY23 so far, informed Union Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Jardosh in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Friday. 

Citing the Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption and Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Uttar Pradesh, the minister shared that the production of cotton in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is 80.25 lakh bales, 0.065 lakh bales and 15.19 lakh bales respectively.

The consumption of cotton has dropped from 334.87 in FY21 to 313.77 in FY22, revealed the data shared by MoS textiles. 

In view of exports, there has been a decline from 77.59 lakh bales to 42.25 lakh bales with the value falling from Rs 17,914.34 crore to Rs 14,887.36 crore.

She further clarified that the State-wise exports are not monitored by the government.
