Two-day workshop on promotion of indigenous handlooms underway in Imphal

Imphal, Nov 16 (KNN) With the aim to highlight the Importance of developing an indigenous handicraft sector, a two-day workshop is being organised under the Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana (AHVY) in Imphal.

The workshop was inaugurated on Tuesday at Hotel Tampha, North AOC.

The programme is being organised by North Eastern Regional office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Guwahati in collaboration with the Handicrafts Service Centre, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, Imphal.

The inaugural function was graced by G Shanti Devi, Shilp Guru Awardee; Hara Kanta Baro, Deputy Director (Design), Weavers Service Centre, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, Imphal; Meisnam Lalini Devi, National Awardee; B Mili, Senior Assistant Director (H), NERO, Guwahati and Mutum Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Assistant Director (H), Handicrafts Service Centre, Imphal as the presidium members.

As per reports, Handicrafts Pehchan identity cards were distributed to the artisans during the programme.

The programme is being attended by around 100 artisans, staff and officers of various Government departments along with the stakeholders concerned.

Mutum Sanjeev Kumar Singh while emphasizing on the purpose of the programme, said that it has been organised to sensitize the artisans in the State about the various projects and schemes of Development Commissioner, Handicrafts to ensure that they avail the benefits of such programmes for the development of Handicrafts sector.

He continued that the programme will educate the artisans about the platforms such as e-commerce, marketing, web portals etc. to enhance the use of these platforms for the extensive promotion and sale of their products to customers across the country and abroad.

“Such measures will help in generating income and improve the economic and social status of these artisans,” he added.

During the workshop, information regarding the loans and other financial schemes will be imparted to the artisans.  (KNN Bureau)
