Week-long District Handloom Expo inaugurated in Kathua, J&K

Kathua, Dec 3 (KNN) The first ever District Level handloom Expo is underway in Kathua, J&K.

The seven-day expo was inaugurated on Friday by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Pandey, along with Joint Director Handloom & Handicrafts, Jammu.

The expo has been sponsored by the Development Commissioner (HL) Ministry of Textiles under NHDP.

With the theme “My Handloom My Pride” the expo will showcase the exquisite art and craft of Kathua district.

During the inaugural ceremony, the DC Kathua said that the Expo will give artisans, weavers and Cooperative societies a suitable marketing platform to sell their genuine products directly to the buyers and provide the tourists and locals an opportunity to get a glimpse of the rich art and craft of Kathua.

He appealed to people to visit the expo site and support the local artisans and weavers by purchasing local handloom products.

Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Director Handloom & Handicrafts, Jammu motivated the weavers to bring more and more Handloom products in Expo for sale as the footfall of the Expo is very good.

The special attraction of the ongoing exhibition was a variety of Basohli Pashmina shawls, Woolen shawls, Mufflers, Coats, Blankets, Cashmilon Shawls and other local Handloom Products.

As per reports, over 25 Handloom groups will be display their products during the seven days expo. 

The handloom expo echoes the message of ‘Vocal for Local’ which will greatly support local Weavers in terms of both Promotion and sale. (KNN Bureau)
