Textiles Minister reviews wool and carpet sectors

New Delhi, Jul 11 (KNN) In order to prepare a road map to increase woollen and carpet exports, the Ministry of Textiles has reviewed both the sectors which include pasture farms for sheep grazing, skill development, modernisation of machineries etc.   

“The Minister of Textiles KS Rao held a meeting with the stake holders of wool and carpet industry to prepare a road map to increase the woollen and carpet export,” according to an official statement here. 

Major issues related to growth of the sector like pasture farm for sheep grazing, feed supplement for sheep during summer season, skill development training for carpet weaving and sheep husbandry, modernisation of woollen processing machineries were discussed.

Further, issues related to rationalisation of import duty on raw wool and woollen processing machineries along with quarantine and recyclable (shoddy) shawl industry issues were discussed.
  
Earlier, the government assured that it will come out with an action plan to increase competitive strength of the textiles sector and boost exports within four weeks.

The decision to set up an inter-ministerial group, headed by the Textiles Secretary, to work out a new competitiveness strategy for the sector was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. (KNN)
