Textiles Ministry launches slew of measures for knitting & knitwear sector

New Delhi, Mar 2 (KNN) To boost the knitwear clusters, Ministry of Textiles announced a slew of measures including setting up of a yarn bank for the knitting industry. 

The Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani launched the Comprehensive Scheme for Development of Knitting and Knitwear Sector under PowerTex India here.

She launched the scheme via video conference by way of releasing a booklet and screening the film on the scheme under PowerTex India for the development of Knitting and Knitwear Sector.

Component of the schemes are Group Workshed, Yarn Bank, common facility Centre, Solar Energy scheme and Mudra Yojana with the different quantum of benefits. The scheme will be in operation up to March 31, 2020.

The main event was organized at India Habitat Center New Delhi connecting three different locations Ludhiana in Punjab, Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, and Kolkatta in West Bengal.

Besides, the Textile Minister interacted through video conference with the entrepreneurs of Ludhiana Cluster and other connected locations regarding knitwear quality mark and Knitwear University.

The minister has agreed upon on the point of Knitwear quality mark and regarding Knitwear University at Ludhiana. She also assured to join this concept with the existing Samarth scheme of Ministry of Textiles. (KNN/YV)
