There is no proposal to levy 5% service tax on healthcare services: Government

New Delhi, Feb 14 (KNN) Playing down the news doing rounds in social media, the government has clarified that there is no proposal in the Union Budget to levy 5 per cent Service Tax on Healthcare Services.

In a release, Finance Ministry said, “The Central Government has clarified that there is NO proposal in the Union Budget 2017-18 to levy 5% Service Tax on Healthcare Services, as reported in certain Social Media circles.”

The news was actively doing rounds in the social media. The proposal to levy service tax of 5 per cent on all healthcare services was made in 2011-12 Budget but was soon withdrawn after opposition.
