New Delhi, Oct 22 (KNN)  Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister K V Thomas has asked the Indian industry to interact proactively with international standards' bodies for protection of consumer interests.

Standards are the major tools that set a framework where people can feel safe and confident in using a product, said Thomas at the 77th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) General Meeting organised by Bureau of Indian Standards here yesterday.

He urged the Indian industry to participate proactively in the technical work of the IEC in order to ensure that their technical inputs as well as feedback are communicated during the standards development process.

He also said it was the government`s responsibility to take care of all stakeholders’ interests to develop and maintain a healthy economy.

IEC is the global organization that publishes international standards for the majority of the electrical and electronic components, both in developed and developing countries around the world. (KNN/ST)
