New Delhi, October 3 (KNN) In line with the Prime Minister’s call to go Khadi, the Ministry of  Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will be connecting over 5 crore village women to charkha in the course of next five year, MSME Minister Giriraj Singh informed.

Giriraj Singh made the announcement during a function on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti at the Khadi Bhawan in the national capital.

Commenting on the positive growth in the khadi sector, the Minister said that earlier khadi was once a fabric consumed either by the elderly or by the political class only, but with initiatives by his Ministry towards the sector, the fabric is now becoming a fashion trend among youth.

Quoting the Prime Minister, Singh said that when PM Modi made the call to go khadi, the country experienced a growth of over 90 per cent in sales.

Singh informed about the solar charkha projects planned by the MSME Ministry. At present five pilot projects at different regions including Varanasi and Nawada are underway.

Once the project picks up, it will ensure a regular income to the population involved in the sector, the Minister added.

The Minister also inaugurated a honey parlor during the event.
