Tourism Min to develop tourist products on par with international standards

In the budget of 2014-15, it has been proposed to allocate Rs 600 crore for two new schemes of the Ministry of Tourism: Rs 500 crore for 5 tourism circuits and Rs 100 crore for National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD), said Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Shripad Yesso Naik in the Lok Sabha today.
Reiterating that promotion and marketing of India as a tourism destination is an ongoing process, he said that the Ministry of Tourism continues to promote India as a holistic destination in the domestic and international markets through media campaigns, tourist literature and publicity material.
He said the Ministry has several guidelines in place for extending financial support to the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations for tourism promotion which include support for production of publicity material, joint advertising in print media, organizing fairs and festivals and tourism related events, promotion of film tourism etc.
“The financial assistance is provided based on proposals received from the State Government/Union Territory Administrations, which are complete in all respects as per guidelines, inter-se priority and subject to availability of funds.
Meanwhile, in his Budget Speech, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced that the facility of Electronic Travel Authorisation (e-Visa) will be introduced in a phased manner at nine airports in India, helping the tourism sector as also the importers, and the necessary infrastructure would be put in place within the next six months.
Tourism is one of the largest job creators globally and the facility of e-Visa would give a major boost to tourism in India. However, the countries to which e-Visa facility would be extended would be identified in a phased manner. This would further facilitate the Visa-on-Arrival facility, Jaitley had said. (KNN/ES)
