TRAI recommends forming 5G-dedicated Inter Ministerial Working Group; MoMSME to be part of it

New Delhi, April 12 (KNN) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended to form a 5G-dedicated Inter-Ministerial Working Group. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) will be a part of it.

In a big relief to the Telecom sectoe, TRAI has slashed the base price for airwaves by up to 40% across all spectrum bands, including 5G airwaves.

It has also suggested that for uptake of 5G use cases in different verticals, a 5G-dedicated Inter Ministerial Working Group (IMWG), should be formed comprising Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Niti Ayog, and other Ministries, as members which should be represented by Joint Secretary Level officers.

The government aims to conduct spectrum auctions in 2022 in order to enable roll out of 5G services by private players before March 2023.

The telecom regulator has also suggested that all available spectrum in the existing bands 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz should be put up for auction, along with airwaves in new bands such as 600 MHz, 3300-3670 MHz and 24.25-28.5 GHz. (KNN Bureau)
