Transporters fear inspector raj under E way bill, govt says it is efficient use of technology

New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) With the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announcing the roll out of E-Way bill mechanism under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the transporters had raised fears that it might lead to reinstatement of inspector raj in the country.

Responding to the fears, Finance Secretary, Hasmukh Adhia said that the introduction of E-Way bill is not reinstatement of inspector raj, it is efficient use of information technology.

Adhia further appealed traders and transporters to gear up for the new norm.

Adhia in a tweet from his official twitter handle said “Asking traders and transporters to generate E-way Bill on-line and carry it, is not 'Inspector Raj'; it is just ‘’efficient use of Information Technology.” Let us all prepare for Feb 1 deadline for e-way bill for inter-State transportation of goods”.

Earlier, Talking to KNN regarding the upcoming norm, Naveen Kumar Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) informed that the e way bill that is set to be implemented is bringing back the fear of undue harassment for the transporters along the roadways.

Regarding the operational aspect, Gupta said that there is going to be difficult time for the transporters to carry part loads that constitutes to over 40 per cent of the transporters business. (KNN/ DA)
