Transporters' strike impacts govt revenues worth Rs 3,600 lakh

New Delhi, Oct 6 (KNN) The nationwide strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) which lasted for five days has impacted government revenues worth over Rs 3,600 lakh realised through road transport.

An analysis on financial impact of the strike conducted by the economic research bureau of industry body ASSOCHAM on Monday said that it has led to shortage of essential commodities like milk, fruits and vegetables during the five day strike.

It also said that strike has affected about 20 billion tonnes-km of freight traffic movement.

Meanwhile a media report said it caused a national loss of Rs 20,000 crore a day for the government while transporters incurred losses to the tune of Rs 3,700 crore.

The five day long strike has been called off after a meeting between agitating apex truckers body and road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari with the government assuring to look into their demands.

The transporters have been protesting against the existing toll collection system. (KNN Bureau)
