Two Semiconductor Facilities Operational As India Strengthens Chip Ecosystem: Vaishnaw
New Delhi, Jun 18 (KNN) India is making steady progress towards becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing hub, with two semiconductor facilities already operational and two more set to become functional this year, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
Two Semiconductor Plants Begin Commercial Production
Speaking at an event in Ranjangaon, Pune, Vaishnaw said the semiconductor plants of Micron Technology and Kaynes Semicon have commenced commercial production, reported Economic Times.
He added that a third semiconductor facility is scheduled to be inaugurated in July, while a fourth plant is expected to become operational by December.
Government Focuses On Building Semiconductor Ecosystem
The minister said the government remains focused on strengthening India's semiconductor ecosystem as part of its broader push to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities in strategic sectors.
He added that continued investments in semiconductors and electronics manufacturing would play a key role in strengthening the country's industrial base and boosting its export potential.
Electronics Emerges As A Major Export Driver
Vaishnaw also noted that electronics has emerged as India's third-largest export category, with the government now aiming to make it the country's second-largest export sector.
According to official data, India's electronics exports increased 11.62 percent year-on-year to USD 5.09 billion in May.
Electronics Manufacturing Industry Sees Rapid Expansion
Highlighting the sector's growth, the minister said India's electronics manufacturing industry has expanded into a nearly Rs 13 lakh crore industry, attributing the progress to the government's efforts to position India as a trusted global manufacturing partner.
He said the momentum in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing reflects India's growing stature in global supply chains and its ambition to emerge as a leading technology and manufacturing destination.
