Un-shredded metallic scrap to be imported only by designated sea ports

New Delhi, Oct 7 (KNN) The designated sea ports which will install and operationalize Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner by March 31, 2017 will be allowed to import un-shredded metallic scrap after that.
Till then, the existing designated sea ports – Chennai, Cochin, Ennore, JNPT, Kandla, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Paradip, Tuticorin, Visakhapatnam, Pipava, Mundra and Kolkata will be allowed to import un-shredded metallic scrap.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has come out with the procedure governing import of un-shredded scrap (HMS-I and HMS-II) by sea ports
In a notification, DGFT said, “Any sea port to be designated for import of un-shredded metallic scrap will be required to install Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner with adequate security.”
The sea ports, after completing the procedure, will have to approach the jurisdictional Customs for inspection and certification.
After getting clearance from the customs, the ports will be designated for import of un-shredded metallic scrap.
The existing designated sea ports which fail to meet the deadline will be derecognized for the purpose from April 1, 2017.
Further, DGFT said, “ICD can handle clearance of un-shredded metallic scrap provided the same passes through any of the designated sea ports…” (KNN Bureau)
