Union Steel Minister stresses on need to set up scrap-based steel production units

Gurugram, Jan 12 (KNN) Union Steel Minister Birender Singh on Wednesday expressed the need for setting up scrap-based steel production units, which are mostly MSME units, as they are cost effective and environment friendly.

He said this while addressing the second and final day of Pravasi Haryana Divas here.

According to him making steel from scrap is not only cost-effective but also environment-friendly. He said central government is also plan to bring policy for such projects.

He projected that the country would surpass Japan in steel production in the coming few months. At present India is the third largest producer of steel after Japan.

He also mentioned about the contribution of the state in agriculture by saying that though industrialization is considered the only way to move forward yet the contribution of farming community in the development process could not be ignored.

There is a need to acquaint the farmers with these techniques to increase their production. Haryana is a small state with only two per cent of the total population of the country but contributes 23 per cent food grains to the national kitty. (KNN/RAS)
