UP Govt to distribute 400 solar charkhas to registered yarn spinners
New Delhi, July 3 (KNN) The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to distribute as many as 400 solar-powered charkhas to registered yarn spinners in a bid to improve their efficiency and double their income.
With this move, UP would become the first state to recognize cloth woven on solar charkhas as khadi.
Solar charkhas are used in other states also, but cloth so produced is not considered khadi and therefore weavers don’t get government benefits under khadi promotion.
The scheme may be rolled out from October 2, said Minister for Khadi, Satyadev Pachauri.
He said, “There are 300 committees registered with Khadi and Village Industries Board. We will provide charkhas to them for spinners registered with them. If they are earning Rs 3,000 right now, they will start earning Rs 8,000.”
