UP to purchase 1000 MW of power to effectively meet state needs next year

Lucknow, Dec 9 (KNN) To provide round the clock access to electricity to everyone in the state, the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) intends to purchase 1000 MW of power during the next year.
A Government of Uttar Pradesh Enterprises, UPPCL is a bulk supplier to five DISCOMs in UP.
In this regard, UPPCL seeks bids from various power trading bodies/suppliers to supply 1000 MW, round the clock, or a part of it with a minimum of 100 MW firm power, (minimum 50 MW from a single source under short term basis from January 1 to August-31, 2014.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has adopted the Energy Policy of 2009, which envisages that the per capita consumption of power would increase from the meagre 370 units at present to 1,000 units by 2017.
It gives renewed thrust to power generation, transmission and distribution along with simplified procedures and incentives for active private participation. (KNN/ES)
