Urging support, Pharma Sector to present white paper before the government

New Delhi, Dec 2 (KNN) Pharma industry leaders and stakeholders participated in a discussion on Indian Pharmaceutical Industry in a CEO Round Table as part of the 2nd edition of India  Pharma Week, a UBM India initiative introduced to celebrate a decade of CPhI & P-MEC. The industry would soon come up with a white paper for the government based on the discussion in the round table.

According to the stakeholders, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) should be encouraged in the sector by making easy for them to comply with the quality checks and delivery requirement. They also recommended that the academic research should be encouraged by fostering the ties between industry, government and academic research institutes.

They also deliberated on the technology investment needed to provide affordable healthcare to all the sections of the society and need for new approach on quality compliance.

Talking to KNN, Himanshu Shah, Secretary, MP Small Scale Drug Manufacturers Association informed of the possible support it expects from the government in the pharma sector.

He said that the government need to subsidize and encourage MSME drug manufacturers and API (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) manufacturers.

MSMEs are producing and exporting good quality drugs but all the benefit has been given to merchant exporters.

Many API have been shut down due to pollution compliance , hence technological investment and policy liberalization is required in the sector, according to the Secretary.

Appreciating the efforts of CDSO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organization), he said the organization had been working diligently to ease the approval and licensing norms. He added that the documentation part need to be relaxed for MSMEs as they already lack funds and resources to manufacture drugs. (KNN/AG)
