WB Govt announces soft loan of Rs 100 crores for workers of closed tea gardens

Kolkata, Dec 9 (KNN) The West Bengal Government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to provide soft loan of Rs 100 crores to the planters of sick and closed tea gardens of North Bengal from the special corpus fund for tea industry.

The announcement came after the meeting attended by the State Labour Minister Malay Ghatak with the tea planters, trade union leaders of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.

“The loan at low interest rate would be provided to the owners of sick and closed tea gardens to be used for the welfare of workers, said labour Minister after attending the meet.

The minister also said that the condition to get the loan is that the planters should use the loan only to carry out workers’ welfare activities. (KNN Bureau)
