Mumbai, Dec 28 (KNN) Government is giving special emphasis to boost the Khadi sector in the country, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's repeated call for improving the Khadi sale.

Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh, wrote on the micro-blogging site twitter that the Ministry is focusing to improve the Khadi sector.

“We are focusing on Khadi production, quality and marketing,” Singh wrote.

The Minister also held a review meeting with MSME Ministry, KVIC and NSIC in Mumbai recently.

On October 3, 2014, Modi had advocated for the use of khadi products in order to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. He had urged people to use at least one khadi product, even if it is a handkerchief or a bedsheet. "We must promote the use of khadi. Buy at least one khadi product. By doing so you will light the lamp of prosperity in the house of a poor," PM Modi had said.

While the sales figures were on a decline in the first half of 2014-15 as compared to the previous year, the corresponding figures witnessed a sudden jump in the second half of the year. In first two quarters of 2014-15 (April to September) the sale was down from Rs 500 crore to Rs 417 crore (2013-14). However, in next two quarters the corresponding number went up from Rs 581 crore to Rs 753 crore. (KNN Bureau)
