We are forced to live from hand-to-mouth, claims vendors

New Delhi, Oct 25 (KNN) The street vendors are quite unhappy with the government and Municipal authorities with eviction across the state, some of the vendors have claimed that they are forced to live from hand-to-mouth situation.

While speaking to KNN India, Bachan Mishra, a vendor from Jama masjid said, ''Within a month of eviction, our business destroyed completely, instead of going ahead we have jumped back. Day by day our condition is deteriorating. Eventually, we are forced to live from hand-to-mouth.''

''The eviction took place suddenly, my all selling stuffs are with me, as we can't sell them, nor we can do anything. The place where, we keep our goods, we have to pay them also and apart from these, we have to pay rents and school fees of our kids. Running after the authorities and participating in protest that's all take money and time due to which our expenditures have jumped and we have noting our hand to expend in this situation. This affect us mentally,'' Mishra said.

Mishra said, ''See, there is  corruption in each and every department in our country but when it comes to police, then i can say that if 40 per cent police officials are corrupt then other 60 per cent is nice and very helpful. To some extent police supports us in installing our shops and if, they don't support then, there won't be any vendors will be seen with is shops.''

''The vendors often refrain from messing up with police and Municipal authorities as they want to get in those legal things, instead they prefer to offer some amount to get rid of those nuisance,'' he added.

''Tops guns in the administrative units like IAS and other they don't have any idea about such things. They react and act as per the guidance of lower officer or junior officer. These IAS don't have any opinion also. Lower office are lying there in the department for a long time, they have their setting with the concerned persons. These IAS comes for period of two years and go, so they are unaware of truth,'' he alleged.

''It's hard to meet those (Top officers) but somehow, if we managed, to meet them then there we fail to put our issues in front of them,'' he added.

On October 12st, anguished with municipalities, the street vendors held a demonstration at the Civic Centre in Delhi to voice anger against the authorities. The protest is being held under the leadership of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).
